The Artists

Karen Cattell
Karen Cattell was born and raised in Vancouver BC in 1947. She had a passion for art since childhood.
As a beginning artist, she would sketch portraits of friends and fictitious charachters with different hairstyles, it thus came to no surprise that at the age of 18, she became a hairstylist.
Karen eventaully became a member of the Burnaby Artists Guild in 1978, where she could devote more time to painting, focusing mainly on oils. She continued to seek and participate in new methods of painting and other creative art forms.
In 1988, Karen joined a decorative artist's guild and attended numerous classes and workshops, as well as several seminars in Utah and Oregon. After several years of painting as a decorative artist and rasing a family, she rejoined her original guild in 2001.
Her personal style evolved over time through experimentation, practice and patience. She credits her natural surroundings as well as the world of imagination, which is visible in her whimsical portraits, to be her most valuable artistic influences.
